Minutes from PTO June 5, 2008

(Provided by Kelley Edwards, standing in for PTO Secretary Susan Holmes)

Margie:  Wants input from teachers, to give their blessing, what equipment or
books.  What they both use, with Larry and teachers approval.

Karen:  Maybe we could table it.

Sarah:  We don’t have to pay for everything.  Larry and Father have a budget
And we can supplement the book fund but not everything.

Mary: Budget was frozen, the school needed money.

Shannon: Never know what the budget was in the past.  With Father on
                board it should change th

Amy:    Like to see Larry and teachers come together with the cirulium.

Sarah:   Let’s put the book issue on hold.  How about set amount

Jeanne:  No

Shannon:  Put some, a % until the teachers’ committee figure out what is
                needed.

Sarah:  Let’s table it until we meet next year budget meeting.  Coordinate with
teachers and put a % aside.

Karen:  And the approval from the diocese.  And coordinate with them for more information and accreditation

Sarah:  preschool issue

Jeanne:  talked to father, found out further information.  Sam asked for
boiler to be fixed.  Boiler control panel is broken – repair $2000
3 fans on top of building are broken and on repair list.  It will help
control the temperature in the older classroom.  Sam’s do list is on
                the church budget list.

Amy:   Church should do all repairs.
Jeanne:  The church also has a mold issue in the rectory.  K of C will do the
labor church is covering the cost.  El Pomar said church has to
pay off debt before doing any repairs or lose the money.

Sarah:  Do not want to put money into the building – Preschool if they aren’t
going to use the preschool.  Father said they will always use the
building, not necessary as a preschool but for something.

Jeanne:  Panic bars, windows, toilet need repair.  Needs to be done before
               next spring.

Sarah:  Window was broken by someone don’t we ask them to repair the
            window

Jeanne:  people didn’t ask the people of e-life when they broke something in
the school.  Back door will take a while about two weeks and then
clean up.  About 6 to 8 weeks to order the windows.

Sarah:  Was the Church building committee present during these inquiries.

Jeanne:  Linda was suppose to tour it with Church building committee
              at the time.

Sarah:  a thought how about setting aside a % and revisit at budget meeting
            next school year.

Margie:  have a concern that quote will be different, should be a cap on the
            percentage.

Karen:  Have the Church building committee to check it out as well.

Shannon:  remember PTO not a maintenance committee.

Karen:  MOTION to approve with a maximum of $10,000 on contingence that
St. Paul building committee review and approve the plans.

Amy: 2nd motion
all approved (Shannon, Margie, Amy, Karen, Jeanne, Sarah, Kelley and Joan)

Jeanne:  approve of Mrs. Ellen Bishop going to conference on dyslexia.

Shannon:  teacher have limited budget.  Mrs. Bishop would pay for herself,
then she said she would take some of her budget and pay for the
rest.  Teachers were not explain about their budget and how to use
it.  Told her ask the PTO to cover the cost.  So some of the
teachers said they would use the rest of the teachers budget that
                 wasn’t used.

Sarah:  bad accounting when you shift money around that way.  We don’t
need arguing over the money.  They can ask for money for special
            things.

Jeanne:  I will explain the rules.

Margie:  Need to be written and given to the teachers

Jeanne:  I go to each teacher, the new ones especially.

Amy:  I rather the teachers come to us for things like this.

Karen:  MOTION First approved by Larry, Mrs. Bishop goes to reading
specialist and dyslexia class. Has $121 form teacher budget for
additional $544 to cover the class.

Amy:  2nd motion
All in favor

Jeanne:  Mrs. Hanson $152.85 for 20 headphone and speakers, including
              shipping for the computer lab.

Karen: MOTION to approve paying for items including shipping

Margie: 2nd motion
All approve

Sarah:  Larry wants the subscription for magazines to the teachers and
classroom.  Larry wants approval of the magazines and if we don’t
he will take it out of the teachers’ classroom budget.  Don’t know
if the teachers wants them or needs them.

Amy:  its extra things for the classroom not needed to teach the class.
Sarah:  PTO has the concession stand and can sell at the games for extra
income.  We have a plaque stating PTO has concession stand.
Another option is to give Larry a lump sum and don’t ask for
more, instead of nickel and dime us.  But tells us how you
are spending it.  We (PTO officers) thought it over and don’t
           thinks it’s a good idea.

Shannon:  It has been done in the past.  If it’s done again, you should
have a committee of teachers that should have say with the
                 principle.

Sarah:  it’s a thought.  We have seen in the pass year everything going
so fast before any thought into it.

Amy:  Larry needs a Vice Principal because Larry has such a big job.

Karen:  There is going to be so much change and direction with the
             church and Father on board.

Margie:  We need clarify with father that we are in tradition for the past
year.  Want to have the right image of the PTO.

Karen:  Shannon has a good idea to have committee to over see the lump
sum, but we need to wait for Father to come in.

Sarah:  See what Father is going to do with Larry, and the school.  To see
what direction is going to take the school and everything.

Margie:  I like the idea of the lump sum and the committee.  They
the teachers and Larry will be forced to communicate with
             each other.

Shannon:  there has been other Vice Principal in the past.  It’s a thought.

Sarah:  Closure to the meeting.  Last meeting, temperature 50F
